Overview

Flat antennas for Wi-Fi, ISM, GNSS and links: linear or circular polarisation, inset or probe feed, sector panels of several patches. Made as an ordinary board, they repeat well in series.

From the simplest to the most complex: a rectangular inset-fed 2.45 GHz Wi-Fi patch on FR-4, up to a circularly polarised GNSS patch (truncated corners or two probes with a 90° bridge) and a 1 × 4 sector panel with a feed network.

Typical performance

  • A single patch: gain ≈ 5–8 dBi, beamwidth ≈ 65–90°typical
  • VSWR < 2 over ≈ 1–5 % on a thin substrate, up to ≈ 10 % on a thick onetypical
  • Circular polarisation: truncated corners ≈ 0.5–2 % band, two probes with a 90° bridge ≈ 10–20 %typical
  • A 1 × 4 panel: gain ≈ 11–13 dBi, a narrower beam in the array planetypical

Typical values describe the antenna class, not a guarantee for a unit; “computed” marks our own simulated example.
